26 RISK REPORT 2024/25
7. South Africa Future Scenarios
To survive, we must sustainably create and protect value for the planet and ourselves. Successful people
understand how to balance historical experiences, current conditions, and future threats with their own actions
to drive different outcomes. People who don’t align their own actions with scenario-based risk management to
think and act proactively in the present to influence the future based on emerging trends and uncertainties, are
unable to create a successful future. South Africans should become capable scenario-based risk managers in all
spheres of their lives, to inform the trade-offs between scarce resources in the short-, medium-, and long-term.
They should hold their leaders accountable to create and protect value sustainably, for society and the earth.
The IRMSA scenarios are summarised in the graphic below:
• Each scenario has a specific risk profile: improving the risk profile by managing the risk, will lead to a better
scenario.
• The ability to improve the risk profile, is dependent on specific dominating cultural behaviours: changing the
behaviours, will enable better risk response outcomes, which will lead to a better future scenario coming
true.
