20 RISK REPORT 2024/25
6.1.3. Risk and Economic Sector Analysis
Risk professionals and subject matter experts collaborated to provide the following:
• Concise summary of each risk theme.
• A scenario of how each risk could materialise and a view on how resilient the country and
organisations are now.
• Short-, medium-, and long-term risk responses for each risk theme to prompt innovation and action.
6.1.4. Regional, Continental and Global View
The national view is supplemented by considering the regional, continental, and global trends that
impact the country.
6.1.5. Call to Action
A national ‘Call to Action’ proposes a deliberate and united social culture to influence organisational, risk,
and national government cultures towards managing SA’s risk better, and so achieve national outcomes.
6.1.6. Expert Collaboration
Key to a risk resilient country, is competent young people to manage risk at personal, social,
organisational, and national levels. IRMSA’s Youth Desk (launched in 2023) promotes risk management
as a career through its Youth Month initiatives, youth mentorship, increased focus at tertiary institutions,
employment opportunities, as well as professional growth and empowerment initiatives among young risk
management enthusiasts. A significant achievement includes a partnership with the Spencer Educational
Foundation, where two South African teams reached the top eight out of 32 universities worldwide,
presenting to international judges in San Diego in 2024. Out of more than 300 young IRMSA members,
65, primarily students, have actively participated in these initiatives. In this Report, these future leaders
contributed to the risk and economic sector assessments, as indicated by blue-highlighted names in the
report.
IRMSA’s extensive member base and partnerships with experienced individuals and country leaders have
enabled extensive critical reading and vetting of the Report content to ensure credibility and relevance
to influence decision making across all spheres of decision-making and ensure a better future for South
Africa.
