8 RISK REPORT 2024/25
3. Preface by the IRMSA President
South Africa is marking 30 years of democracy with great pride and optimism. This milestone
is not only a celebration of our democratic journey, but also a moment to reflect on the
significant strides IRMSA has made in advancing risk management in and beyond our country.
IRMSA embraces its role as the sole professional body
for risk management in South Africa with a deep sense
of responsibility and commitment. Our vision to be the
leader in risk management supported by our mission
to empower, advocate, and be a centre of excellence
to advance the discipline beyond our country, reflects
our commitment to growth and innovation. In this
significant year, IRMSA celebrates a decade of Risk
Reports, which have evolved into our flagship product,
providing critical insights and guidance to navigate our
complex risk landscape. The Report highlights the risks
facing the country and is a global benchmark for risk
management practices that underscores South Africa’s
position as a global risk management thought leader.
Committed to extending our reach, we have integrated
Africa into our agenda (as also reflected in this Report).
By involving our African counterparts, we foster a
more inclusive dialogue on risk that considers our
uniquely African challenges and opportunities. This
strengthens our regional leadership position and
enhances the relevance and effectiveness of the risk
management expertise, capacity building, and focused
professionalisation efforts across the region. In addition
to our regional focus, we actively build relationships with
global counterparts, to remain a leading voice in risk
management internationally. This global perspective
enriches our relevance and enables us to bring
innovative and best practice benefits to our members.
Recognising that the future of risk management is in
the hands of the next generation, we have launched
BHEKI GUTSHWA several initiatives to empower and develop young risk
